ABSTRACT
The issue of physical unacceptability is an important concern, especially for adolescents in junior high school. Adolescents who judge their physical self negatively will be vulnerable to having a negative body image, resulting in inferiority. Especially for adolescents who live independently in dormitories / in pesantren. This is an opportunity to educate adolescents about changes in adolescence, especially puberty and the problems that commonly occur and introduce how to respond to changes positively through healthy puberty psychoeducation. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a healthy puberty psychoeducation program in optimizing a positive body image of junior high school adolescents. The method used was quasi-experiment with one group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were one group consisting of 65 seventh grade students of Sabilurrosyad Junior High School Malang who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Subjects are in the early phase adolescent, have or have not experienced the characteristics of puberty. The variables in this study include positive body image as the dependent variable and healthy puberty psychoeducation program as the independent variable. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire to measure respondent characteristics and a positive body image instrument translated from PBIAS (Positive Body Image among Adolescents Scale) from Maes et al (2021). The positive body image instrument was given before and after psychoeducation was conducted. The data analysis technique used the Paired T-test. The average value of positive body image has increased from before to after being given psychoeducation, namely from 82.7385 to 84.2769. The results of hypothesis testing proved significant with a t(64) = -2,053, p value = 0.044 <0.05. Thus it can be concluded that the healthy puberty psychoeducation program is effective in optimizing a positive body image of students in SMP Islam Sabilurrosyad Malang. This program can be one of the programs for forming a positive self-concept in students so that they become confident individuals with strong character and leadership qualities as expected by school.
